Visualizing and Managing Dependencies in Timeline View

Updated

Overview

Timeline view allows you to visualize Dependencies through Task Bars and arrows. In Timeline view you can also enable Critical Paths. A Critical Path highlights Tasks which are dependent on each other in a way that delays to one Task can automatically delay or Tasks in that Path. Thus, Critical Paths also help you identify overdue Tasks responsible for creating delays in your Project schedule.

Creating a Dependency in Timeline View

1. In Timeline view hover over the Task Bar of a Task to reveal two draggable stubs.

2. Click the stub on one Task and drag it to another Task to create a Dependency.

3. The left stub on any Task Bar creates a Dependency based on the Start Date of that Task and the right stub creates Dependencies based on its End Date.

4. Dragging a left stub to the left end of another Task Bar will create a Start-to-Start Dependency. Similarly, dragging a left stub to the right end of another Task Bar will create a Start-to-Finish Dependency. Learn more about the types of Dependencies in our article on Dependency Types.

Deleting a Dependency in Timeline View
