Design Effective Leaderboards to Recognise Champions
Updated
Advocacy platforms have grown in sophistication, enabling greater user engagement and customization. One of the key features contributing to this user-centric approach is the Program Leaderboard. But what exactly is it, and why does it matter?
What are Program Leaderboards?
Program leaderboards are dynamic scoreboards that track, and display advocates' participation levels based on the points they earn from various activities. Here is what you need to know:
Point Configuration: Admins can set up a scoring system for a myriad of activities, whether they are at the advocacy site level, channel level, or even external publisher level.
Badges and Rewards: Active participants or advocates can accrue these points to win badges or other incentives, adding an element of fun and competitiveness.
Customization: Program Admins have the autonomy to Mold the leaderboards according to their specific needs. This way, they can highlight top-performing advocates in distinct segments of the program.
Engagement Factor: Incorporating leaderboards can enhance user adoption, making the program more appealing and engaging for the advocates.
Why are Program Leaderboards Crucial?
Program leaderboards are not just ornamental; they serve several strategic purposes:
Healthy Competition: They instil a sense of competition among teams, departments, or regional advocates.
Recognition: High-performing users receive acknowledgment, enhancing motivation.
Entertainment Value: The platform becomes more than just a tool; it becomes an interactive and entertaining experience.
Dive Deep: Configurations & Customizations
Program leaderboards offer a plethora of options for admins to play around with:
Leaderboard Filters based on Screener Questions
Explicit Filters: Admins can select screener questions to act as filters for the leaderboard, allowing advocates to see scores based on shared interests or affiliations. It can also produce widgets based on these questions.
Implicit Filters: By marking a screener question as implicit, admins ensure that advocates see leaderboard standings only within their domain or group.
Gamification Tab Insights
In the Gamification Tab, located in the Admin Console:
Leaderboard Description: Here, admins can elucidate the points system, badges, and more. This description is prominently displayed to users, guiding them on how they can earn points.
Time Filters: Admins can predetermine a default time filter, which will be automatically selected for the end-users.
Tailored Leaderboard Customizations
Program leaderboards are not one-size-fits-all. Admins have a broad spectrum of customization options:
Time Variations: Whether it is a lifetime scoreboard or a time-bound one (weekly, monthly, etc.), admins can set the duration as they see fit.
Visibility Control: Not every leaderboard needs to be public. Admins can restrict visibility to specific groups or departments.
Filter Customization: Tailored filters based on screener questions allow for personalized leaderboard views.
Campaign-specific Leaderboards: Admins can create leaderboards for specific campaigns, providing a focused track of leaders for that initiative.
Note: For some functionalities, you may need to contact your Service Manager (SM).
Tips for Maximizing Leaderboard Impact
Keep it Fresh: Regularly updating the leaderboards keeps the competition lively and draws more participants.
Diverse Competitions: Use leaderboards for varying contests and different user categories. For instance, you can spotlight top leaders of a department, the most engaged in a content category, monthly leaders, and so forth.
Strategic Creation: By creating time-bound leaderboards or ones based on content categories or user properties, admins can cater to specific user groups and engagement goals.
