Set up UTM Parameters: Best Practices

Updated

Here are some best practices while setting up UTM parameters for Advocacy.

  • Ensure you add the following 4 UTM parameters in your Advocacy Profile. This will ensure you plot and filter down Clicks data on individual user level, post level and parent post level.

    • Community User ID

    • Consumer Post ID

    • Parent Asset ID

    • Post ID

  • Ensure that the parameter names added in the profile have no whitespaces (Spaces) in between them. If you are adding any spaces, do ensure to fill the ‘Replace Space within a variable with selected operator’ field.

  • Ensure that there is a sufficient monthly quota on the URL shortener service you are using. Every time an advocate shares a post, a unique URL is generated, so if 1000’s of shares are taking place and the URL shortener plan you have subscribed to has a limit lower than that threshold, it can cause limit exhaustion and consequent errors when advocates try to share.

    • If this is not possible, you can use the Sprinklr Shortener as well (spr.ly). This shortener will not have these limitations.
