Operators FAQs

Updated

Get answers to the most frequently asked questions about different types of operators supported by Sprinklr.

Yes, operators are globally available for all customers.

Previously, when these new operators like title and message were not available, all the posts containing keywords in title and message were pulled in. This means the users could not segregate mentions with a keyword in a title vs a keyword in a message. With the introduction of operators like title and message, users can now fetch only the required mentions.

Additionally, Sprinklr has introduced new capabilities like author, userbio, language, country, followers, exactMessage, exactTitle, parentMessage, etc. These capabilities will further give more flexibility to users to fetch their data.

The operator is a new additional feature in Social Listening. Users can use operators by updating their existing queries. As a result of this, the updated queries with operators will be operational on live data as well as historical data. However, for exact matching of the historical data, users have to submit a reprocessing request to support.

Below is a list of operators supported in Listening Explorer:

  • message

  • title

  • country

  • language

  • author

  • userbio

  • followers

Note: Any of the Exact Match Operators are not supported in Quick Search.

Yes. If you want historic data to be functioned with exact matching, first, you will have to update your queries and submit a request to reprocess the data.

The exactMessage operator will help you find an exact match in the messages. The following points need to be considered while using the exactMessage operator:

  • exactMessage operator is available in the keyword query filter on widgets.

  • exactMessage operator is case sensitive.

  • exactMessage operator is sensitive to special characters ( - _ @ # $ & *).

  • exactMessage operator is not sensitive to punctuation (, : ; ‘ ’. ?).

  • exactMessage operator and combination of AND or OR operator work is supported ((exactMessage: Dell OR XPS)) OR ((Alienware)).

  • exactMessage operator and combination of NEAR/n function are not supported ((exactMessage: Dell NEAR/5 XPS)).

  • NEAR/n function is supported within exactMessage query ((exactMessage: Dell NEAR/5 XPS)).

Yes. In each operator separately, quotes are needed. Make sure there is no space between quote and ~.

For example: (title: ("Sprinklr ASKO"~8 OR Forrester))

Yes, NEAR is allowed with operators. For example:

(parentMessage:(Sprinklr NEAR/8 ASKO)) [correct]

NEAR should not be used across operators and/or within the same operator. For example:

  • (parentMessage:Sprinklr NEAR/8 ASKO) [incorrect because brackets are missing]

  • (parentMessage:Sprinklr NEAR/8 parentTitle: ASKO) [incorrect because NEAR is used across more than one operator]

Yes, however, wildcard queries should not be inside the quotes. For example:

  • (message:(visit* AND "India")) [correct]

  • (message:("visit*" AND "India")) [incorrect]

Every phrase including proximity phrases should have quotes. For example:

  • (message:"big mac") [correct as it will search for big mac in messages]

  • (message: (Big Mac)) [incorrect]

  • (message: ("Big mac"~8)) [correct as it will search for big mac in messages even if there is a distance of 8 words between big and mac]

  • (message: (Big Mac~8)) [incorrect]

Yes, all the operators can be combined keeping the right syntax in mind. For example:

(exactUserBio: "love Amazon" AND message: (#AmazonPrime OR "Amazon Prime"))

Yes, Exact Match Operator is GA (General Availability), i.e. publicly available.

No, a keyword list is just a list of words and phrases.

Operators can be used in themes and topics in the advanced query fields.

It is an additional feature given to users to make querying more flexible. If you do not use operators, the queries will continue to function as they used to earlier.

The same query limits as earlier apply to the new operators as well.

  • The operator used in the query does not exist.

If nothing is found wrong but still the same problem persists, please reach out to the support team.

We support Topic Preview for all the operators, i.e. Search Operators, Exact Match Operators, and Parent Operators. With operator support in topic preview, you can update queries accordingly and also use it for consumption.

Just like any query in Sprinklr's Social Listening, data pulled in through these queries with operators can be sliced and diced using themes.
