Sprinklr provides a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) shortening utility, spr.ly, which combines the functions of existing URL shortening services, such as bit.ly, or ari.ba along with the capabilities suited for an enterprise client’s specific needs.
The following are the advantages of using Sprinklr URL shortening utility, spr.ly.
| Description |
Efficiency | Automatically shortens naked URL from the back-end, eliminating the copy-paste step involved in the shortening of your URL. |
Branding and Publishing Customization | You can use the following capability for all your URL branding and URL customization needs: White-Label the Sprinklr short URL (spr.ly) with a custom branded URL domain. Associate multiple short domains and use them interchangeably. It also includes the bit.ly prodomain. A big limitation on the bit.ly site is that a pro-domain is associated with a real brand website domain automatically, which means that you can't associate multiple short domains and use them interchangeably. Sprinklr allows you to shorten a link with any of a company’s pre-identified short domains regardless of the real brand’s website domain.
Ability to fetch link details and edit details for Facebook. Ability to shorten multiple URLs and prioritize link details for Facebook.

| Create a library of Custom Links which consists of frequently used URLs. A frequently used URL can be a vanity URL, which is set up by a Sprinklr user. For more information on how to set vanity URL, see Add a Vanity URL.
Following are the advantages of maintaining a Custom Link Library: A Custom Link library provides link-level reporting. For example, Company X is frequently asked about its coupon policy. So, they set up a "Custom Link" spr.ly/coupon-policy that is directed to their coupon policy URL. Whenever Company X needs to reference that coupon policy in their tweet or post, they can easily identify the URL and publish it. Retain link-level reporting for Custom Links" as well as the unique link associated with the original custom link. For example, each time a user from Company X inserts the spr.ly/coupon-policy custom link in the Quick Publisher, Sprinklr generates a unique shortened URL, which in addition to capturing the data about which social platform the link is being published to, it automatically associates that unique URL with the original “Custom Link”. This provides a much more granular level of reporting at both the "Custom Link" level and the unique link-level across a post, social platform, and time. Copy and publish Custom Link as a vanity URL across multiple social platforms, including channels not supported by Sprinklr.

Reporting | Real-time reporting and accuracy over time. Sprinklr fetches bit.ly data into the platform via APIs. If a link gets a traffic spike after a month that means the polling of data for the bit.ly link has stopped, and the data will not be available in Sprinklr for reporting. Since this is a batch process, the data is not real-time either. If you are using the Sprinklr native shortener, reporting is in real-time and accurate irrespective of the time duration.
Get reporting for traffic source and referrer. Sprinklr’s enterprise clients have required the ability to differentiate between consumer and enterprise activity sharing their links. Bit.ly auto shortens links across URLs by domain regardless of whether the link was posted by the brand or shared by consumers. While this has benefits, it is very important for brands to differentiate between brand-led efforts and consumer sharing.
Ability to filter spam clicks. Due to exposure as a consumer-facing service, bit.ly has a high risk for spam traffic. At one point it was reported that 40% of bit.ly links were pointing to spam domains. This has resulted in bit.ly getting blocked by sites like Facebook in the past. Facebook has blocked bit.ly on at least two occasions.
See link-level reporting under the custom links section.

Web Analytics Integration | This functionality is currently unique to Sprinklr. Native Sprinklr shortener seamlessly supports integration with all web analytics platforms, for instance, Coremetrics, SiteCatalyst, Google Analytics. With no manual intervention, compliance rates and accuracy of passing parameters are very high. |
| To outshine the increasing spam, large companies need to strengthen their identities in social media and build consumer trust by creating their own branded domains. Creating customized branded domains using URL shortener software may incur a cost. However, these services are included free of cost in Sprinklr. |
URL Shortener, Reporting Widget, and API | Sprinklr URL Shortener can be shared and used in external supporting applications apart from the Sprinklr platform. It can be done by using the short URL widget or a simple REST-based API and create both short vanity URLs or random URLs. |
| Specifies the type of values that can be appended to URLs prior to shortening. URL values are the little snippets of texts added to the end of your URL to help you track the number of visitors or the success of your content on the web. Sprinklr provides the following URL values: paid initiative id, ad set id, ad variant id, Sprinklr campaign id, start date, end date, social screenname, social account id, ad account screen name, ad account id, account type, original link, client id, and any custom field properties. |
Note: Double shortening (that is, having a URL shortener link to another URL shortener link) will always cause issues. In that case, turn off shortening when pointing to an already-shortened link. |
Difference between spr.ly URL shortening and bit.ly
Sprinklr capabilities a URL shortening utility, spr.ly, which combines the functions of the existing URL shortening services, along with capabilities that suit enterprise clients. spr.ly provides an easy way to track both message and link-level analytics. Even though the post will have a shortened link, the report will have the original naked URL. However, bit.ly tracks only the link-level analytics, without providing details on the messages containing that link.
Sprinklr provides a capability called ‘Custom Links’, where a user can provide a meaningful name for their link and use it in their messages across the social media platforms.
